A blog for the fearless, fabulous females in their 40s, 50s and beyond. Is that you? Or is it who you want to be?
In the past, women past 30 were considered past their prime. Hollywood gave the leading female roles to women in their 20s while males in their 40s and 50s were still considered sexy. Double standards still exist, but….
There has been a wind of change in the right direction. Did you see Jennifer Lopez in Hustlers?
Style isn’t about age, but your outside reflecting all of your amazingness. You deserve to feel pretty because ain’t nobody got time for frumpy!
The thing is, women your age have a depth and breadth of experiences and have so much to offer.
By now, you’ve lived through some things and have the battle scars to prove it. Hell, haven’t we all? Divorce, check! Disease and death of loved ones, yep! Betrayal and a broken heart, you know it! The scars (and wrinkles) are part of the richness of life.
Well, that’s how I like to think of it. I know that without trials and pain, that it can be hard to see the beauty or the lesson to be learned. Like that time, I was held up at gunpoint in the African jungle. A little scary, but It certainly makes for a great story.
What I know is that you deserve to feel and look beautiful and that is why I started this blog.
Friends come to me for fashion advice and I really love to help them find styles to flatter their body, get them to try new ways of wearing clothes (some they already own) and how to accessorize. Shopping for others is one of my secret skills.
Once, I styled a newly divorced man who needed some fashion help before diving back into the dating world. O.k. that isn’t so weird, but it happened to be while we were on a date. Don’t judge, he really needed my help.
Don’t you admire women who always look pulled together? They aren’t necessarily a certain age, size or body type, but they have that something. They seem to know how to pull off looking fabulous. I follow loads of fashion bloggers and realize they know what flatters their body. They’ve developed a style, a look and an air of self-confidence.
The Accidental Icon – Lyn Slater
Talk about attitude, Lyn Slater is truly a style icon.
In her 60s, a social media celebrity and fashion blogger, she has been featured in Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue and more. With more than 203k followers on Instagram, she defies the idea of “dressing your age” and is simply fabulous!
Learn how the Fordham University professor was discovered and more about her style philosophy.
After struggling for many years, I can easily look at something on the hanger and know whether it’s going to fit or whether it will look good on me.
Oh, don’t get me wrong. Like you, I’ve made my share of fashion blunders. Remember those long, wide legged shorts? Those were a fashion “don’t” for someone with short, muscular, tree-trunk stubby legs like mine.
Mom, thanks for the lips, but why didn’t I inherit your legs?
Who am I? I’m a Kentucky born farm girl who never thought I’d travel the world but always yearned for more. I love pink, high heels and lipstick. My pooch, Sophie D., is my baby and is possibly the smartest dog alive.
Fitness is a bit of an obsession of mine and helps me stay sane. Wine, chocolate and coffee are food groups in my world and some of the reasons I work out. I’m an extrovert, a little kooky, but definitely fun!
When I’m not writing this blog, I’m running a nonprofit organization that provides clean water to rural villages in Africa. So, if you reach out and I don’t respond right away, it’s because I’m probably off the grid visiting some of those villages and witnessing the gift of clean water.
I would really love to hear from you!
Please let me know topics you’d like to see me cover or questions you have about fashion or styling or any of the other topics I blog about.
And remember,
Fashion is what you buy,
Style is what you do with it.
