It’s Fall Y’all!
In Austin, the weather is still screaming SUMMMERRRR, but I’m itching to wear my booties and jackets. So I’m sharing my five tips for transitioning your summer wardrobe into Fall and beyond. I’m also sharing some links to some of my favorite pieces in case you are in a shopping state of mind

#1 Introduce Darker Colors
Fall brings to mind the colors of the leaves and the change in the season. Why not incorporate those colors as your transition pieces: think russet, brown, olive, black, mustard, orange or gold?
Top your favorite black jeans and a light weight top with a cable knit sweater in a dark cool tone or fall color. Here, I’ve added a cardigan with one of my favorite pink floral camisole tops from the summer.
Now is the time to top a pair of white jeans with a fall color on top and boots. Yes, you can wear white after Labor Day. Actually, winter white is a favorite of color of mine especially when I’ve grown tired of black and browns. Add an olive military jacket to a favorite skirt and don’t be afraid to mix up the colors.
Some great sweater options are available on Amazon and all of these styles come in a wide range of colors. Simply click on the image for more information.
Animal prints are so on trend right now whether in clothing, footwear or accessories and again are great for transitioning into cooler weather. I love anial print with red and this is another cable knit sweater that’s light weight enough to make the transition into fall.
The paper bag waist is trending this fall and this version comes in 13 colors/patterns. I particularly like the red, but the traditional leopard pair is super cute.
#2 Layer It Up
Bare legs are great when you have a bit of a tan and can show off your summer pedicure, but when the temperatures dip and the thought of baring your skin gives you the shivers, throw on leggings or tights with a dress and add booties. Tights are easy and come in lots of fun patterns.
In this pic, I am wearing a patterned legging, black long sleeve cotton t-shirt with a black and brown long sweater vest.
Add a poncho or shawl over your shoulders for an easy, warming look to any light weight blouse or dress. This shawl came in the fall FabFitFun box and I’m in love.

#3 Jackets as Completer Pieces
A leather jacket is a great material to add as a layering piece. Leather isn’t exactly warm, but adds just enough of a layer to ward off a chill.
Another great jacket option is a boyfriend style jacket that can take those khaki/tan bottoms right into pumpkin spice and football season.
Who doesn’t love a cute moto jacket? They are available in leather, suede, wool, faux leather and in a wide array of hues. They are a mainstay in any wardrobe.
Denim jackets are like tennis shoes and can be worn with dresses, shorts, pants or skirts. They are a go-to topper for any outfit. They are great for bringing a casual feel to even the dressiest of outfits. Personally, I own several.
Teddy Bear Jackets – One of my favorite new trends. I snagged a super sale on one last fall and can’t wait to break it out again this year. It is super light-weight, but snuggly and soft.
#4 Invest in Boots
Love ‘em or love em? The thing is there is a style and heel height for everyone. Boots are great with skirts, dresses, jeans, pants and shorts. You simply can’t go wrong with investing in some quality boots. I own several pair that I’ve had for over ten years and still love. Of course, that doesn’t stop me from investing in a new pair or two every year.
Boots are a great way to stretch your wardrobe, so be sure to save up and invest in a couple of pair in different heel heights for this fall.
Nothing transitions your summer looks into fall and winter better than a pair of boots. I tend to like tall boots with shorter dresses and skirts and the opposite for longer dresses and skirts. However, I can’t deny that a cute swing dress with a pair of short booties will stop me in my tracks. Throw on a felt hat and you have a look that is pulled together and “oh so cute.”
Check out Steve Madden online. They are my “go to”for boot shopping. The quality is fantastic and the customer service is simply the best.
#5 Don’t put away your sandals just yet
Yes, boots are great, but unless it’s freezing already in your latitude, keep those open toe shoes within reach. Here’s the tip, think fall/winter colors or materials like suede and leather vs. canvas.
My favorite color for any footwear is cognac. I have flat sandals, high heels, short and tall boots in cognac (in the photo above). In my opinion, cognac is the new black.
The shoes in the pic below are from Aldo and I bought them at least ten years ago. They are suede, neutral and go with everything.
I’d love to see how you’ve incorporated some of these tips into your personal style. Send me your pics and let’s see what you’ve got.
