Red Dress

February is the Month of Love…

Whether you celebrate Valentine’s Day or not, it is hard to ignore. The signs are all around and it’s time to bring in the romance, flowers, chocolates and reason to dress up for your special someone. Or perhaps you are making it a galentine’s day and celebrating with your gal pals. I’ll toast to that!

Style-wise, Valentine’s Day is a great reason to bring on the red or pink if you lean in that direction.  Red is a commanding color and if you wear it be ready to receive some attention. Whether you go all out and wear it head-to-toe or just throw on some red shoes or lipstick, own it my friend!

Red Dress

You can go with a long-sleeve version and wear it with boots or if you are brave enough and you aren’t going to freeze on your night out, then go for a flirty, sexy style and cover up with a faux fur coat or wrap.

Short sleeve pencil sheath dress – just perfect for a pair of boots or booties. The material includes a bit of spandex, so expect some give to the material.

This is a simple, classy style and I own one that I wear for work. It easily goes from work to happy hour. I just change out the jewelry and shoes.

Red Sheath Dress

Red Sweater Dress with matching belt – This little number comes in 12 colors and can be worn on the shoulder for a sexier look. The red is limited in sizes, but with so many color options (including pink) you’ll want to buy  more than one. I have this dress in a rust color and wear it with tall black boots. It is a hit every single time.

Venus mock neck red dress (xs to xxxl) is a steal at less than $20 (3/4 lengths sleeve and hits right at the knee) the key-hole cut out is just alluring enough.

Are You More of a Pants Girl?

Red pants are a staple in my closet and just right when you tire of jeans or black slacks. Pair your favorite pair with a white or black blouse.  Either way, it is classy and sassy. My new favorite pair are from Francesca’s and they were on super clearance.

I love the black velvet strip down the seam and the high waist hides my They are comfortable, soft and the fact that I ordered them online without trying them on first….well they are a perfect fit.

Pair them with a graphic tee and boots for a rocker look or bring out the glam with a silk blouse and heels. Either way, you are going to look fantastic.

Red Pants

Target high rise velvet skinny pants  can be worn as shown for a casual look or glammed up for a special night out.  Velvet is back on trend and these pants will take you into the next season with style.

A flirtier style is this high waist pants with bow tie on the ankle. This pair comes in over 30 colors and features a cropped look which is perfect for us vertically challenged gals. It contains spandex so will provide some give.

Just One Piece will Do

A great way to be a bit more subtle is to go with a red on top or bottom. Again, it commands attention and you can pair the blouse with a great skirt, jeans or slacks. I suggest going with black or something in animal print. Red paired with leopard is one of my favorite combinations. If your skirt is red, think about a heavy cable sweater or even a cute graphic t-shirt to make it more casual.

The first option is a scoop neck blouse with leg-of-mutton sleeve (xs to xl) Prices vary on Amazon, but is now featured at less than $20.

The 2nd blouse is oh-so-feminine and is from Venus. It comes in sizes small to 3XL.

And behind door number three is a sweet lace blouse from H&M. It also comes in black.

More Red

A pencil skirt looks great on any figure. This one shown in a polka dot print is available in over 30 colors/patterns including solid red.

Jumpsuits are still trending strong and I’d be remiss if I didn’t provide at least one in red.

Francesca’s offers this cute number but hurry because it’s selling out fast.

Just Lips Please

If red is too scary or you just don’t have the energy to shop for anything new, you can always swipe on some red lipstick and call it a day

My mom never left the house without lipstick and I’ve learned that a hat and lipstick go a long way.

Lately, I’ve been liking the matte lip stains or long wearing color. I like to apply them and then add a little gloss on top.

Lipstick color is very and individual. Similarly to trying out a new fragrance, I like to try out a new color out before committing especially if I’m paying more than $30 for a tube.

The three colors/brands here are from low to high price. Of course, many of the higher price beauty stores allow for samplying, so I suggest visiting your local beauty counter and finding a color that works for you.

NYX Soft Matte lip cream in “Monte Carlo” (cranberry red)

L’Oreal Lip stain – “I Am Worth It”

MAC – retro matte liquid lip color “Carnivorous”

February is not the only month you can wear red, but it certainly makes it seem festive and fun. Enjoy this special season of love!
