How to Style a Shacket

A shacket is a shirt-jacket hybrid. It looks like a shirt with a collar, buttons, and cuffs yet has the weight and construction to be used as a jacket. Most shackets are made of denim, corduroy, or flannel. Some have sherpa lining for extra warmth.

This fall’s wardrobe staple first gained popularity in the early 2010s when celebrities like Justin Bieber and Harry Styles were spotted wearing them. Shackets made a comeback in 2020 as people looked for comfortable and stylish clothing to wear during the pandemic.

They are the perfect item to throw on when you need an extra layer but don’t want to wear a heavy coat. They are also great for transitional weather because you can wear them as part of your layering system.

How do you style a shacket?

Shackets are versatile and can be worn as the name implies… as a shirt or a jacket. Wear it over a graphic tee with jeans and sneakers for a casual look. Layer it over a collared shirt or turtleneck with slacks or dark-wash jeans for a more put-together look. Pair it with a dress or skirt and tights for a preppy, academic look.

I bought this one last year on Amazon but it’s still available in a variety of color combiations. I styled the featured shacket with a flirty skirt which would work well for brunch with the girls. In the 2nd look, I paired it with faux leather leggings and booties. The athleisure look in the 3nd option would work well when going from running errands to the gym. Lastly, I wore it over a t-shirt and my favorite jean shorts for a great transitional look when those warm fall days require a light jacket after the sun goes down.

Inspiration from Walmart

Walmart has upped its fashion game and while I couldn’t find any shackets in my local Walmart, I found several options online. The first one is a plaid in a longer length and features a hood.

Option two below is a cropped version in corduroy. It would work well as casual work look paired with slacks or dark jeans.

A shacket is the perfect fall wardrobe staple because it is comfortable, stylish, and versatile. You can dress them up or down depending on the occasion. So go out and get yourself one (or two)! You won’t regret it!
