We all know that staying in is the new going out, but it’s still tough to come up with new and fun ideas for a romantic night at home. It seems like everywhere you turn there are ads for flowers, chocolates, and fixed-priced meals. Now this girl loves all those, but why not try something a little less traditional or cliche?
Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to try something new. Why not try one of these amazing at-home date ideas? From cooking a romantic dinner together to watching your favorite movie, I’ve got you covered. Plus, you can avoid the crowds.

Cooking for Two
One of the best at-home date ideas is to cook a romantic dinner together. Find a recipe that you both love, or try something new. If cooking isn’t your thing, order in from your favorite restaurant. Spend time preparing and cooking the meal together, and then enjoy eating it in front of the fire or by candlelight.
Online Cooking Classes
A great idea is to take a cooking class together. This can be done online from the comfort of your own kitchen. You’ll get to spend time learning new skills and preparing a delicious meal. Plus, you’ll have something to talk about for weeks afterwards!
Williams Sonoma, Sur La Table (Cupid’s Whoopie Pie’s looks like a perfect fit for a Valentine’s Date), and The Chef and the Dish are all options for staying in and cooking with your loved one. You can sign up easily online and then tune in for your class.
Cooking Kits
If you are a bit more adventurous, you could try some of the at-home cooking kits and test your culinary skills. Two options that look like fun are sushi-making or fondue which could be used for chocolate or cheese. Light some candles, play some romantic music and feed each other some chocolate-dipped strawberries, pineapple, blueberries, or other favorite fruit.
Breakfast in Bed
Another classic romantic gesture is breakfast in bed. Wake up early, make your loved one a delicious breakfast and serve it to them in bed. This can be anything from pancakes and bacon to eggs Benedict or avocado toast.
You’ll be sure to bring a smile to their sleepy face if you serve up some heart-shaped waffles using this waffle maker.
Wine and Spirits
Food and drink go together and if you are looking for more ways to have fun while staying at home for the most romantic day of the year or if you’re looking for a more intimate Valentine’s Day celebration, why not enjoy a bottle of wine or champagne together? If you aren’t versed in wine and have always wanted to learn more, you might consider ordering a wine tasting kit.
In Good Taste offers kits of four or eight six-ounce pours which is perfect for sharing tasting notes and learning more about your wine preferences. They also offer virtual wine tastings, so you can taste and learn from the experts if you want some insights into the nuances of each wine.
Or, if you’re more of a spirits person, why not try out some new cocktails together? Shaker & Spoon is a subscription service that could be a V-Day gift to your special person. Each curated box contains the drink recipe, and everything you need for 12 cocktails per box excluding the liquor. You can pay month by month or choose three, six or a year’s subscription depending on your budget.
Expert mixologist videos are accessible via their website so you can learn at your convenience.
If you’re looking for a more low-key Valentine’s Day this year, why not try some of these at-home date ideas? From fondue kits to breakfast in bed, there’s something for everyone.
Fun and Games
w
A classic way to spend a romantic evening at home is by playing games. Board games, card games or even just some good old-fashioned dice can add an extra layer of fun and excitement to your night in. If you’re looking for something new to try, One Night Ultimate Werewolf is one game to consider. This game is simple to learn and can be played in as little as 15 minutes. In the game, players are assigned roles – werewolves, villagers, etc
Talk, Flirt or Dare is a game perfect for couples wanting to add a bit of spice to their relationship. Pick a card and you must answer the question or complete the dare.
Scavenger Hunt
If you’re looking for a way to add some excitement to your Valentine’s Day, why not try a scavenger hunt? This can be as simple or complex as you want it to be. You can create a list of items that need to be found or tasks that need to be completed. If you’re feeling really ambitious, you could even create a scavenger hunt that leads to different parts of your house or neighborhood.
Not sure how to get started? This article offers lots of ideas of how to write clues, suggestions for prizes (use your imagination here).

Video Games
If you’re both video game fans, why not spend Valentine’s Day playing your favorite games? My personal favorite is Ms. Pac-Man. Owning video equipment is no longer a requirement. Online is the way to go and why not make a friendly little wager on the outcome of the game?
Painting Kit for Two
Grab a painting kit for two and spend the day creating your own masterpiece. There are so many different kits to choose from, you’re sure to find one that fits your style. If you’re feeling ambitious, you could even try a still life or landscape.
Reminisce through Photos or Video
If you’re looking for a fun way to capture your Valentine’s Day, why not set up a photo booth? You can use props, backdrops or even just some creative selfie ideas. This is the perfect way to capture all the memories of your special day.
Photo Book
Much of our memories and lives reside on social media, but why not create a memory book highlighting some of the important moments and happy times in your journey? With sites like Shutterfly, it’s easy to create a photo book for your loved one. Add in some captions and stories to really make it special.
Another service is called Artifact Uprising and they are currently offering a Valentine’s Day special.
Love Story Video
Why not create your own love story video? This could be a compilation of photos and videos from your relationship or even just a sentimental video made specifically for Valentine’s Day. If you’re feeling really creative, you could add in music, text, or even create a storyboard.
You might share how you met, where you went for your first date, who said, “I love you” first, or any number of special memories. Whether you share it with others or simply watch it every year on Valentine’s Day. It will be a beautiful memory for decades to come.
Exercise Inside or Outdoors
If you’re looking for a way to get active and spend time outdoors, Valentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity. Bundle up and take a walk around your neighborhood or go explore a new park or hiking trail. If you’re feeling adventurous, rent some snowshoes or cross-country skis and hit the trails.
Hike
Make a hike romantic by moonlight or pack a picnic lunch and don’t forget the chocolate.
Scout out an interesting spot for a little romance by stopping at a waterfall, viewing point or cozy cabin along the way. Bring along a blanket and relax in nature.
Backyard Camping
Remember when you were a kid and went “camping” in your backyard? Why not snuggle together in a sleeping bag, break out the s’mores and have a little romance party by a campfire? And if it gets too cold or uncomfortable, your bed is just a few steps away.
If you’re more of an indoor person, there are plenty of exercises that can be done together in the comfort of your own home.
Dance
Why not try a dance video workout like Zumba or Cha-Cha-Cha? You could also break out the old-fashioned records and have a swing dance party. If you don’t feel comfortable left to your own moves, why not check out Fred Astaire online classes. You can choose group or private lessons.
Youtube is a great free way to catch some dance videos whether more for exercise, like Zumba or for instruction on how to learn a specific dance style or more.
Yoga for Couples
If you’re looking for something more low-key, why not try some yoga together? Not only is it a great way to connect with your partner, but it’s also good for your health.
The options are unlimited so I suggest looking around and deciding whether you want to go all-in and sign up for a series of classes or simply want a little fun on Valentine’s Day.
This article from “Elite Daily” offers up eight Youtube Couples tutorials for you to consider.
Netflix and Chill
If all else fails, there’s always Netflix and chill. Snuggle up on the couch with your loved one and watch a movie or TV show. This is especially perfect if you’re not feeling up to going out or doing anything too strenuous.
Pop some popcorn, put on a cozy blanket, and get ready for a night of entertainment. You could even try themed movies depending on what you’re in the mood for. For example, if you want to feel romantic, choose some love stories like “The Notebook” or “Titanic.” A couple of my personal favorites are “Chocolat” and “Love Actually.” If you’re looking for a bit of humor, try some classics like “When Harry Met Sally” or “The 40-Year-Old Virgin.” And if you just want to relax, go with something calming like “Forrest Gump” or “Big Fish.”
No matter what you choose, spending time together at home is always a great way to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
There are so many different ways to show your love on Valentine’s Day, whether you’re celebrating at home or going out. I hope this list gives you some ideas of how to make the day special for you and your loved one. From dancing together to watching your favorite movies, I’m sure you’ll find something that will make you feel loved and special. So relax, enjoy each other’s company, and have a happy Valentine’s Day!
