Summer is here!  As a young schoolgirl, I thought the school year and the summer were the same length. Perhaps it was the freedom, sunshine and long days spent riding bides, exploring nature and creating adventures. Growing up on a farm in Kentucky, a summer ritual was going barefoot which meant that summer had finally arrived.

As an adult, summertime doesn’t mean going barefoot as much as being able to wear sandals and open-toed shoes. Ohhhh how good it feels for the tootsies to be free and to enjoy bright toenail polish. The cold-weather brown and black shoes are now relegated to the back of the closet. Bring on colors and summer fun!

Designer Shoe Warehouse (DSW) is a great place to see loads of options. The store is laid out to make it easy to shop for specific styles whether flats, sports, flip flops, high heels and more. Plus they always have a huge clearance section. If you dig rewards programs, then be sure to sign up for DSW VIP. It’s free to join and you get free shipping and 5% back on purchases. So get thee to DSW!

Now for what’s tending….

Wedges:  I’m vertically challenged (5’4”), so I tend to gravitate towards styles that add a bit of height. Wedges can be paired with shorts, skirts, dresses, pants, jumpsuits. You name it!  I have this pair from Tom’s in two colors.

The espadrille heel is light and airy and works great for those summery styles. This pair comes in nine colors and also without the strap.

Leopard is a print that catches my eye every.single.time. I simply can’t get enough. This pair by Franco Sarto is everything I love about animal print.

The pair on the right, I scored is by Skechers. I can’t seem to find them online, but they were purchased recently, so it’d be worth it to stop by your local DSW. The sole is foam for extra comfort and the cork heel is just the right height to be a bit more casual.

This White Mountain pair has a little different take on the leopard colors.

The raffia rope heel is a cute change and offers texture to the entire look. You can choose from five color options.

If leopard isn’t your jam, then these gold metallic pair by Clark’s just might be the ones for you.

They offer a foam sole for super comfort and the color is light enough to work as a neutral.

Flats: Come in all the varities from flip flops, gladiator, strappy or slide and summer is the season to add a few more pair to your collection. The pair you wear to the beach might not be the right style for Sunday brunch with the girls. The style for a maxi dress might not be the appropriate footwear for hiking.

This braided pair in bright mustard is everything I love about summer. Available in five colors.

These super flat Lucie sandals are adorable and in addition to the yellow snake skin, come in six other colors including a gold metallic, orange, buttery yellow, blue tie dye, white and black.

If you haven’t figured it out yet, cognac is one of my favorite colors in shoe wear. This all leather pair also comes in black and bone. Wear them with jean shorts, add a kimono and throw on a hat and you’ll look cute while running errands.

Heels:  Tis the season for weddings, graduations and special occasions! Heels make any outfit feel dressier and more special. This style goes with everything from the your favorite LBD, to skirts, jumpsuits, pants and even jeans.

I’m in love with this color. The ruffled look catches the eye and adds a little something extra to a basic style.  My favorite pair of strappy sandals is similar with a more scalloped edge.  This pair by Unisa also comes in black and the price is ridiculous.

90s inspired sandal by Dolce Vita and who doesn’t love the sweet life? The heel makes walking much easier than a thin heel and would even work for a garden wedding. The cowhide heel is adorable and it also comes in yellow snake skin. I’m in love!

Jessica Simpson has brought the square toe with a toe loop and beautiful colors to spruce up any solid jumpsuit or dress.

The chunky heel is so on trend. It also comes in nude. I can’t decide which pair to buy.

Happy sandal shopping!
